A life stage

When I found this news this morning on facebook, I recognized him immediately. So remote but so present - That white-haired Don Quijote singing on the platform of L3 Pg. de Gràcia.

So, his name is Ramon.

He was not begging or performing as a street artist that you often meet in such places. On the opposite platform to me, rather than singing, he was acting into the emptiness, chilling.

It should be during my period of most turbulence when I met him for the first time, probably in 2008/09? (I must be off class from certain language school where I taught and transferred from local train to underground there to go to a faculty's library) Everybody around was discrete, trying to not look at the poor man...

I coincided with him probably for twice more but, it has been today that I have finally got to know the story of a stranger... What has moved me most is the warmness unknown people show in every message on-line...

So I have gone back to his corner this afternoon. Generally Barcelona people avoid going to this station unless they have no other choices, because the connection route is very badly designed to take L2 or L4, and it had no elevators until last year. However, in spite of many changes, it is not difficult to identify:

You were in a hurry, you met a probably mad man in the underground, the train came and you left the scene behind... Until one day, he reappeared, this time, with a sad news about his death, when you find that short moment was not only stored in your memory, but also shared by many others:

The man who used to perform opera in the underground
