Practical Info Besançon
---------------------------------------
By air: The nearest INTERNATIOANL airport, Dole; Then, Basel, Geneva and Bern; Lyon and Paris' airports would be options for longer stays inside France. LOCAL airport: Dijon.
By rail: TGV has a station in Besançon, but it is necessary to take another local train to go to the village station. Generally the timetable is connected to TGV : ) And it is extremely beautiful the view through the window! From the village station there is a bus which takes you to the town centre (15 minutes).
Besançon was where Dinu Lipatti performed for the last time, and it happened to be on the same day when I visited it last year (Sep. 16)! The palace where he gave the recital in 1950 is today the Military Museum, but it was Sunday and so closed (I could only take a picture from the outside : ( His rehearsal before that recital was recorded and later released by EMI, which has been reissued time and time again with different remastering CD and box-set.
